First America Holiday (4)
Now remember, Marco had arrived on Sunday night. And between Monday morning and the following Sunday, we had to: 1.drive
to Florida 2.go deep sea fishing 3.visit with my Mom and UncleDad 4.drive to Orlando 5.go to Universal Studios 6.go to Seaworld
7.drive back to Destin 8.take a different route home so we could stop in New Orleans 9.spend the night in Memphis 10.visit
Graceland and then 11.drive back to St. Louis and get to the graduation by 7:00pm Sunday. On paper this worked out fine. I had
forgotten one small thing. SLEEP! We were never going to be able to get more than about 4 hours of sleep a night if this was gonna
work. But damnit, I worked my ass off to figure out how to squeeze everything into the short time we had, so come hell or high
water, it WAS going to work!
I had previously booked and paid for our hotel in Orlando. So all we had to do was get there, check in, and hurry up and go to
Universal so we would have all day and night to play. However we didn't even end up getting to Orlando until about 1:00pm. And by
the time we found the damn hotel it was close to 2:00pm. We checked in and went to the room to drop off all our things. Omigosh the
room was about 90 degrees! It was so hot! I turned the air up full blast, but it wasn't helping. I just left it on and hoped that by the
time we got back that night, it would have cooled off.
When we had freshened up we left and went to the lobby to buy the tickets for Universal. One small problem. The dude who sold
them wasn't there. So we had to drive down to a different hotel to find him. When I finally did, he said that all of the parks closed at
7:00pm. DAMNIT! I hadn't even considered the possibility of them closing so early. We have a 6-Flags by us that is open until at
least 10:00pm every night. But I bought the tickets anyway. We didn't have a choice, today was the ONLY day we had available to
go.
We started driving towards Universal Studios, but as we were driving, I started thinking. By the time we got there it would be
close to 4:00pm, and it closes at 7:00pm. So we would have spent $100.00 for 3 hours, where we wouldn't even get to see everything.
Needless to say, I was getting really upset. I had worked so hard to plan this and make sure Marco got to see and do everything he
wanted. And now within the first 3 days, everything was falling apart.
Marco told me to calm down and not worry about it, everything would work out fine. But I knew there was no way in hell this was
gonna work. I pulled over and tried to figure out what we could do. The decision was made that we would exchange the tickets for
today and just go tomorrow, then go to Seaworld on Thursday. We would have to drive to my Mom's house from Seaworld though,
which meant another night of driving. But if that's what it took to keep everything on schedule, then that is what we would do.
We exchanged the tickets, and now had the rest of the day and night free to do whatever we would like. We laid around the hotel
room for a while watching tv. We knew we wanted to go out and do something that night, we just had no clue what. So we got in the
truck and just started driving, looking for something fun to do. Not far from the hotel we noticed a Renaissance Dinner Theater. We
had read something about it from a brochure in the hotel earlier. They serve us dinner, all we could drink beer and wine, all while
we watch the performance. Marco loved the idea of getting lots of food that he could tear apart and eat with his hands. I just liked
the idea of all we could drink alcohol. So we agreed, this is what we would do tonight.
By the time we walked in the front door, we had already spent $125. This covered our dinner, show, and the special VIP package.
We got our special crowns to wear, our flags to cheer on our guy, a program, and a ticket for a free gift. We had about 30 minutes
before it started, so we went to the "Dungeon" and had awesome drinks called Dragon Slayers. Whoa baby, I was nice and toasty
after 2 of them! But for $10 a shot, it's a damn good thing they were strong! This place was kind of cool. They had character actors
all over the place, getting the crowds worked up and ready for the show. There were hundreds of people, all wearing their little
crowns, waving their banners, cheering and yelling. Marco was having a ball, joining in with all the cheering.
As soon as the show started they began serving us the food. Marco was set and ready to dig into his feast like a medieval manly
man. After all, for that much money, he was going to be served a full feast! Poor nieve Marco. They started us with a small piece of
bread, and I do mean small. Two bites and it would be gone. Then came a bowl of soup, with no utensils. Oh no, I was not eating
this entire meal with my hands, they WILL be giving me silverware. So after whining, I received a plastic fork, spoon, and knife.
hahaha I'll admit the drop of bread and the soup were really good. But then they came and plopped some anorexic sickly slimy
chicken leg on our plates. Drunk or not, I was not about to put that shit in my mouth. So I gave mine to Marco. Then we got our
feast sized spare ribs .... 1 single rib. Again, I gave mine to Marco. We then had a half-potato dropped on our plates. Finally!
Something they couldn't make taste disgusting. Wrong wrong wrong. The one bite I took was spit out into my hand and quickly
wrapped in a napkin. Marco didn't even want mine, that's how bad they were. I really didn't mind too much about the food.
Honestly, unless it's chicken nuggets or a hamburger, I very rarely like things that are served to me in restaurants anyway. So
picking through my food and then giving it away was nothing new for me. Besides, I was enjoying the never-ending glass of beer!
The show was fun to watch as we cheered on our knight. They had 6 knights and horses that went through a series of obstacles.
Ours was doing well. Until the stupid dork stepped out of turn and took an additional challenge. Greedy little pig, he deserved his
fate of being stabbed and killed! So for the remainder of the show we had nobody to cheer for, but it was fun anyway. Overall I had
an awesome time. Of course I could barely see or walk, so that makes just about anything fun!
When we got back to the hotel I wasn't tired at all. The room was cooled off and I was having such a good time I didn't want it to
end. Marco decided to make us some homemade drinks. He was making something called "bowl" like they have in Holland. He took
the ice bucket from the room, filled it with cut up fruit that we had from our trip, added orange juice, 7-up, apple schnapps, and
whiskey. I was lying on the bed watching Marco as he made it. I just laid there smiling. He really is an incredible man. He's got
such a good outlook on life and can have fun doing just about anything. I could count on one hand the number of times since I've
known him that he had spoken negatively about something or someone.
He filled my tall Dragon Slayer cups from the dinner, brought it to me, and then went back to make his own. Mmm this stuff was
GOOD! By the time he was climbing into bed with his own drink, mine was empty. He just laughed, handed me his drink, and then
went to fill up my empty glass for himself. Once again, by the time he climbed into bed, my straw was sucking nothing but air. So I
waved my glass in the air and said, "Dang, where is that cute waiter? I need another drink!" Believe it or not, he again handed me
his, and took mine to go fill for himself.
